Walla Walla's Valiant Comeback Attempt Falls Short

Portland, Ore. – Walla Walla went for the series sweep Saturday night in Portland, Ore. as they hoped to build off momentum built previously in their first conference win against the Lions on Friday afternoon. Despite a big fourth quarter and gallant comeback, the Wolves could not overcome their first-half shooting struggles, leading to a 66-55 win for the Lions.

GAME NOTES:
Walla Walla  was held to under 10 points in both the first and second quarters, leading to a 28-15 halftime lead for the Lions. The Lions would continue their momentum as they doubled up the Wolves in the third quarter 20-10, pushing their lead to 48-25 entering the fourth quarter. 

The Wolves, however, would not go down without a fight. With the Wolves down 56-30 with just under eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Wolves would respond with an 11-3 run to cut into the Lions lead. After a Milan Woods 3-pointer to put the Lions back ahead by 20+ points, the Wolves would respond with another run, this time, the Wolves put together a 10-0 run in a span of just over a minute to cut the Lions lead to 62-52. Unfortunately for the Wolves, time would run out and the Lions would tie up the season series with a 66-55 win despite the Wolves valiant comeback efforts.

WWU shot 17.6 percent in the first half and 28.4 percent for the game while the Lions shot 35 percent in the first half and 34.7 percent for the game. The Wolves took advantage off Lions turnovers, scoring 22 points compared to 15 points for the Lions. The Wolves were much closer in the rebounding category, being slightly outrebounded 35-33. The Lions notched seven second-chance points compared to zero for the Wolves.
 
PLAYER SPOTLIGHTS:
Aaliyah Anderson led the Wolves attack (18 pts. & 8 rbs.) while Carolina Montes chipped in with 17 points. Morgan Stanyer led the Wolves in rebounding, notching nine in the defeat.
 
NEXT GAME:
The Wolves will look to bounce back after the holiday season as they host College of Idaho for a weekend series later this month. The Yotes, currently sitting at 3-6, will play two more conference games before making the trek to Walla Walla. The first game between the Yotes and Wolves is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tipoff on Saturday, December 29.
