College Place, Wash. – The Walla Walla women's basketball team squared off against another D-III opponent, hosting the Pirates of Whitworth University. Despite taking a lead midway through the fourth quarter, the Wolves were outscored 16-6 in the last five minutes of the game, as Whitworth escaped with a 70-62 victory.

GAME NOTES:
- Playing in their third game in as many days, Whitworth did not look like a team playing their third straight game, as the Pirates took an 8-4 lead early on in the quarter and an 18-8 lead after the opening quarter.
- The Wolves would have a much better quarter, scoring 18 points, however, they were not able to make a dent in the Pirates first-half lead, as the visiting team matched the Wolves scoring with 17 points to take a 38-26 lead heading into intermission. The Pirates converted 15 Wolves fouls into 11-for-16 shooting from the free-throw line to lead the way.
- Defense fueled the Wolves to start the second half, as an 8-1 run got them right back into the game. The Pirates extended their lead back to eight after going 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. The Wolves chipped away at the Pirates lead, going on a 7-0 run in the last two minutes of the quarter to tie up the game at 49.
- Wolves' forward Isabella Robles scored on a layup to give the Wolves their first lead of the game at 51-49. The teams went back-and-forth before the Pirates found some breathing room after a 56-56 tie. The Pirates put together a 5-0 run, taking advantage of the Wolves going scoreless for four minutes. The Pirates went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in the last minute to put the game on ice and win their third game in a row.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Isabella Robles recorded her first 20-point game, scoring a career-high 23 points, knocking down 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. Paulina Quintana (12 points, nine rebounds, eight assists), and Jaliyah Casem (12 points and five rebounds) were the other Wolves to lead the offensive attack.
- Wolves leading scorer Carolina Montes (16 ppg) played only four minutes after landing awkwardly on her knee in the opening quarter.
- The Wolves struggled from the free-throw line, shooting 16-25 while the Pirates shot 23-34 for the game.
- Despite the loss, the 62 points were the highest the Wolves have scored against Whitworth, while the 70 points were the lowest they have allowed in five matchups.
NEXT GAME:
Walla Walla will continue its conference season by traveling to Portland, Ore. The Wolves will take on Warner Pacific University for a two-game weekend series. Tip-off for the first game is scheduled for Friday, December 20 at 12:00 p.m.
