COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. — Walla Walla University Women's Basketball team started off their last weekend of home games strong, with the win over the Knights of Warner Pacific University. The Wolves won 55 to the Knights 48. This win marks another historic milestone with most conference wins and most overall wins since joining the CCC.
Walla Walla and Warner Pacific kept the game close, always keeping the score between mere points of each other, no team was going to go out easy. This battle continued until the end of the third quarter when the Wolves took the lead with six points (46-40). This rolled over into the fourth quarter as the Wolves pressed on, maintaining their lead and spreading the points. Natalee Trevino was a key player in keeping this momentum going as she scored 12 points in a row to secure the win.
Head Coach Tony Nakashima is proud of how the team played, mentioning how big of an impact the Wolves' defense and offense was. "Our defense was much better and we were able to get the stops we needed. Offensively, we did a much better job of moving the ball and making the right plays. It was an overall great team effort."
Chariah Daniels led the Wolves with nine rebounds, and yet another double-double, with 18 points and a career high of 12 steals. Freshman Natalee Trevino had 15 points, followed by Jaliyah Casem with 10 points. Senior Clara Wiltgen had five points and five rebounds, and freshman Maren Jones led in assists with six.
For the Knights, McKeeley Tonkin and Emily Brown tied with 10 points each. Emily Brown also earned herself a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, as well as adding one block and one steal to her stat sheet. Larza Guzman had eight points followed by Alexa Mee who had five points, and nine rebounds.
The Wolves are back tomorrow as they take on the Lions of Multnomah. Make sure to come support seniors Jaliyah Casem, Savanah Zamora, and Clara Wiltgen as they play in their final home game. Tip-off is at 7 pm on Windemuth Court.
