WALLA WALLA, Wash. — Three players on the Walla Walla Women's Basketball team reached double-figures in points, but the Wolves fell to Bushnell 63-52 in a Cascade Conference game on Saturday at Windemuth Court.
The loss dropped Walla Walla's record to 4-12 overall and 1-9 in CCC action.
Freshman
Jaylo Bello led the way with 16 points with four 3-pointers. Senior
Chariah Daniels had 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Natalee Trevino added 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting.
Bello set a career high with five assists and had five rebounds. Sophomore
Mireyah Lopez had a mark in several categories with two points, two rebounds, two steals, one assist and her first block of the season.
The Wolves made 7-of-17 (41.2%) from beyond the arc as a team, created 17 turnovers and had 12 steals.
Ellis Mastel led the Beacons with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting and had 10 rebounds. Libby Mathis recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Bushnell outrebounded Walla Walla 44-29 in the game.
The Beacons improved to 5-11 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mandy Sisul got the scoring started for Bushnell with a 3-pointer on the opening possession. Trevino put Walla Walla on the board with a layup 2:36 into the first quarter. Daniels scored inside and Bello connected on two 3s and gave the Wolves a 10-9 lead. Ayden Krupke made a jumper for the Beacons and Walla Walla trailed by one after the first quarter.
After a Bushnell basket it was Bello with another 3 to tie the game. After Mathis hit 1-of-2 free throws and a layup for BU, the Wolves went on the attack.
Sidney Folkenberg made a jumper, Lopez scored on a fast break and Daniels converted an and-1. WWU led 20-16 with 5:37 remaining in the first half.
Bushnell scored the next six points to regain the lead. Bello scored in the paint to tie the game back up. The Beacons scored the final six points in the quarter and Bushnell led 30-24 at halftime.
Bello scored on a jumper in the third quarter.
Allison Haslam got on the board with a 3-pointer and Bello made her fourth 3 of the game, but the Beacons pushed the lead to as much as 13 in the third. Trevino shot a last second 3-pointer and the Wolves went into the fourth quarter down 10.
Both teams traded baskets to start the fourth. Daniels drained a jumper, Trevino made a layup and Folkenberg scored inside for Walla Walla. Bushnell went on a 6-0 run and the Wolves were unable to cut the deficit to under double digits the rest of the contest.
