CALDWELL, Idaho — The Walla Walla Women's Basketball team closed out the weekend with a 71-50 loss to the College of Idaho in a Cascade Conference game at J.A. Albertson Activities Center on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Wolves' record to 7-17 overall and 4-14 in CCC action.
Chariah Daniels recorded yet another double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Natalee Trevino added 11 points and five boards.
Jaylo Bello had nine points and two steals.
College of Idaho shot well all night with a 30-for-60 (50%) performance, but it was the second half where the home team took over. The Yotes made 17-of-27 (63%) in the final 20 minutes of the game and forced 23 turnovers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chariah Daniels got the Wolves on the board first with a jumper.
Natalee Trevino added a free throw and
Sidney Folkenberg scored inside, but College of Idaho jumped out to a 12-5 lead over six minutes into the game.
Allison Haslam made the first 3-pointer of the night for WWU. Daniels scored on a jumper and then took a great pass by Haslam inside for a bucket and the score was tied 12-12 after the first quarter.
It was all Yotes early in the second quarter as CI went on a 10-2 run. Trevenio scored inside to end the run, but Brooke Beresford answered right back. Trevino made a 3 off an assist by
Mireyah Lopez and
Jaylo Bello found space inside for a layup to cut the lead to three. After a Beresford layup it was Trevino with a free throw and Bello with a 3-pointer. An and-1 by Beresford, who scored the final gave College of Idaho a 29-25 halftime lead.
Beresford continued to cause trouble offensively for the Yotes with a pair of layups to start the second half. Daniels and Folkenberg were able to match her with layups, but CI pushed its lead to nine. Folkenberg again scored inside, but the Yotes continued to push the pressure and extended the lead to 45-31. Haslam connected from beyond the arc and Bello diced through the defense for a layup to cut the advantage to single digits. College of Idaho scored eight of the final 12 points and took a 13-point lead into the final period.
Trevino made a pair of free throws and a layup, but the Yotes extended the lead to 18 halfway through the fourth quarter. Daniels made a layup,
Jordan Green-Wallace scored inside and Lopez scored right before the buzzer to cap off the Wolves' offense.
