LEWISTON, Idaho — Walla Walla Women's Golf freshman
Mariana Posada carded a 3-over 75 in the final round to finish sixth in the Warrior Spring Classic at the Lewiston Golf and Country Club on Tuesday.
Posada started her day on No. 13 and had a great bounce back after a bogey on No. 16 with a birdie on the following hole. The freshman concluded her round with five straight pars and moved up the leaderboard all day long. Posada moved up nine spots from Monday and earned her second sixth place finish of the season.
"Mariana had a great tournament, couldn't be more proud of her," Walla Walla assistant coach
Greg Dodds said. "Hit the ball just great."
It is the first time that a Wolves golfer has earned a top-10 finish at a Lewis-Clark State-hosted event.Â
Nell Dodds improved by 14 strokes on Tuesday with a 17-over 89 and finished in 36th place.
Emily Keel recorded a birdie on No. 15 and finished in a tie for 33rd place. The Walla Walla women shot 18 strokes better on the final round than they had on Monday.
"It's been a good warm-up tournament for us," Walla Walla coach
Mason Palmer said. "We haven't had a ton of practice this winter. So coming out of that, I'm pretty happy with the performance. They're all understanding they're a little rusty and can't wait to get back home and put a little more work in."
Andrew Kuljis teed off from No. 3 to start his day and the senior wasted no time posting low numbers. Kuljis scored birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 6, but a triple bogey on No. 7 hurt the momentum. The Ferndale, Wash., native finished strong with a birdie on No. 18 and shot even-par over his final eight holes. Kuljis finished the tournament at 12-over 228 and a tie for 24th place.
Joshua Tan bounced back after a tough start after he found himself 5-over through his first eight holes. Tan shot 1-under the rest of the way with birdies on Nos. 13, 17, 2 and 3. The sophomore finished with a 4-over 76 to card his best round of the tournament and finish in 33rd place.
Nua Devaphain posted three birdies on the day and his final round was five strokes better than either round on Monday.
