Women's Basketball: Wolves Come Up Short on Road Trip

OLYMPIA, WA. -  Wolves held both Northwest University (NU) and The Evergreen State College (TESC) to under 40-percent shooting but were unable to get secure wins over the weekend in their road trip to Western Washington.

Game 1 
THE BASICS: 

Final:  Walla Walla 58, Northwest 73
Records:  Walla Walla (1-18, 0-12 CCC), Northwest (12-7, 6-6 CCC)
  
 GAME NOTES:

  • NU outscored the Wolves 19-11 in the opening quarter, eventually taking a 37-30 lead. Both teams shot a combined 15-for-30 from beyond the arc for a back-and-forth first half.
  • The Wolves cut the deficit to 42-39 in the third quarter after a Jaliyah Casem layup, but that would be the closest the Wolves would get in the second half. The Eagles took a seven-point lead heading into the fourth quarter and added onto that lead in the final period to secure the win.

Records:  Walla Walla (1-19, 0-13 CCC), TESC (5-11, 4-9 CCC)
 
 GAME NOTES:
  • The Wolves struggled from the field in the opening quarter, shooting 21-percent, as the Geoducks took a 14-6 opening quarter lead, but the Wolves responded in the second quarter, eventually cutting the deficit to 14-13 early in the second quarter. The Geoducks answered and pushed their lead back to an eight-point advantage, taking a 26-18 lead at the half.
  • The shooting struggles continued for the Wolves in the third quarter, as they shot 2-for-16 and scored only five points, while the Geoducks struggled as well, scoring 13 points on 4-for-17 and taking a 16-point lead into the final period.
  • The Geoducks built their lead to 20 points in the early stages of the final quarter and maintain a double-digit lead throughout the quarter to secure the victory.

 PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Jalyn Sackrider scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Geoducks.
  • Carolina Montes scored 16 points to lead the Wolves, while Isabella Robles recorded her third double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Walla Walla hits the road again, traveling to Portland to take on Warner Pacific University and Multnomah University this weekend.
