Northwest U Defeats Wolves from Long Range

634KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Northwest University Eagles snapped a four game losing streak with a 93-74 conference win over Walla Walla tonight in the NU Pavilion. Junior Michael Dupree would go five for five from the 3-point line to lead NU with 21 points and senior Zach Smith hit six of eight 3-pointers to finish with 20 points. NU hit 16 of 24 treys for 67 percent shooting on the night.
 
Northwest U never trailed in the game and jumped out to a 24-14 lead 8 minutes into the game as Zach Smith buried one of his six 3-pointers. NU would mount an 11-2 run, capped off by Ben Tucakovic's jumper, to lead by 19, 35-16 with 6:01 left in the half. Another Tucakovic jumper at 3:58 would push the Eagle lead to 42-19. Walla Walla would sink two 3-pointers to end their scoring and close the gap to 44-28 as the half would end.
 
WWU would cut the Northwest U lead to 13 twice to start the second half, but an 8-0 run by the Eagles would increase their lead to 57-36 as Zach Smith would hit another 3-pointer at the 16:20 mark. That would be the closest the Wolves would get as NU would build their lead to 28 after Jaden Jenkins would get to the basket for a lay-in with 2:20 on the clock. WWU's Ryan Spady would hit a lone free throw with 30 seconds to go in the game to end the scoring.
 
Ben Tucakovic and Dak Shagren each scored 13 for Northwest U (8-13, 4-7 CCC) with Shagren leading the team in assists with 9. Tucakovic led NU with 9 rebounds.
 
Walla Walla (2-15, 0-9 CCC) was led by Ryan Spady's 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Ethan Osias added 19 points and Andrew Nye scored 12 for the Wolves. WWU shot 47 percent for the game and went 13-35 from beyond the 3-point arc for 37 percent.
