Women's Basketball

This past weekend the Lady Wolves got their first taste of Cascade Conference action. Saturday they played the #19th ranked Mountaineers of Eastern Oregon.  EOU's size and inside presence proved to be too much for the Wolves, however the Wolves did an excellent of competing throughout the game and did well to limit turnovers and taking advantage of the opportunities they had on offense.  Sunday's game with College of Idaho stayed tight through the first half, but in the third quarter, the Yotes running style helped them pull away from the Wolves.

Alyssa Blankenship is currently leading the Wolves in scoring, with 16.3 pgg, which is also good enough for second in scoring in the CCC.  Lexi Ehlers and Emily Downs are both averaging around 10 ppg as part of the Wolves well rounded attack. The Wolves currently have five players averaging more than 5 rebound per game, led by Emily Downs with 6.6 rpg.

Friday, December 16, @ Multnomah. 11:00 a.m.

The Lions of Multnomah University (3-7, 1-2) lost back-to-back games this last weekend, with a 64-67 loss to The Evergreen State College on Friday and a 66-79 loss at Northwest University Saturday night.  The Lions have won their first CCC win of the season, when they played Warner Pacific College early in the season.  Miranda Schmillen leads the Lions in scoring and rebounding with 15 ppg and 6 rpg.  Miranda is shooting 50% from the three-point line currently, and is getting to the free-throw line often, where she makes nearly 80% of her shots.  In their loss to WPC, Miranda had 32 points and 5 assists in only 25 minutes.  The Lions Milan Woods is second on the team in scoring with 8.9ppg.  In their loss to Northwest University, Milan had 15 points and 6 steals.  As a team the Lions are averaging almost 9 steals per game, the Wolves will need to protect the ball this weekend and keep Multnomah off the boards.

Saturday, December 17, @ Warner Pacific College 6:00 p.m.

On Saturday the Wolves take on the Knights of Warner Pacific College (2-9, 0-3).  This past weekend the Knights dropped back-to-back games on the road to Northwest University and The Evergreen State College.  Kyeli Hendryx leads the Knights in scoring with 12.3ppg.  Four players are all averaging near 9 points per game, a balanced attack similar to the Lady Wolves.

Men's Basketball

The Wolves (2-6, 0-2) had everything going their way against #16 Eastern Oregon (10-2, 2-0) on Saturday night.  At the half, the game was all tied at 35-35 and it looked like the Wolves were ready to take things to the next level.  After a slow start to begin the second half, Walla Walla slipped behind and were never able to recover.  The Wolves then ran into #24 College of Idaho (8-4, 1-1) on Sunday and the Yotes unleashed their relentless defense on the Wolves early and secured the win.  While the Wolves have had their struggles so far this season, in the first 20 minutes against Eastern Oregon the Wolves showed what they are capable of competeing with anyone when they put it all together.  Alec Calloway is still leading the Wolves in Scoring with 15.3 ppg.  The Browning Brothers are both averaging 9 ppg and Dylan Browning is leading the Wolves in rebounding with 6.6 rpg.  Chad Torkelsen had 13 points against Eastern Oregon this weekend, and is shooting 41% on the season from beyond the three-point line.  The Wolves greatest strength continuous to be their depth, and they will need to take full advantage of that this weekend.

Friday, December 16, @ Multnomah University 1:00 p.m. Wolves

Multnomah University (3-9, 0-3) has not won a Cascade Conference game yet this season, but last Friday this pushed The Evergreen State College all the way to the edge and lost to the Geoducks by only four points.  The Lions are averaging nearly 90 points per game, and expect them to come out firing against the Wolves.  Darius Redrick and Ben Grandle are both averaging over 15 ppg, and are not afraid to launch it from deep.  The Lions as a team have already launched 314 three-point field goal attempts this season, almost double the amount the Wolves has taken.

Saturday, December 17, @ Warner Pacific College 8:00 p.m. Wolves

Warner Pacific College (3-4, 1-2) came into the season ranked as the #17 team it the country.  While the season has not gone quite as many thought it would for them, this is still a very dangerous team.  The Knights have a 31-point win over Multnomah University on the books this year, and lost a 2-point game to The Evergreen State College on Saturday night.  The Knights will on the hunt for their second CCC win of the season when they go up against the Wolves on Saturday.  Bryce White leads the CCC in scoring, putting up 25.5 ppg.  Collin Malcolm and De'Corrius Sampson-Young are both averaging well into double figures for the Knights.  WPC limits turnovers, shares the ball and looks to protect the rim, averaging as a team 3.6 blocks per game.

If you are in the Portland area this weekend, the Wolves would love to have you come out to a game!  You can follow the links of the Wolves schedule to the opponent's website to find directions to each school's facilities.
