Portland, Ore.- The Wolves final game before taking a break for Christmas sent them to Portland, Ore. to face the NCAA division I Vikings of Portland State University (7-4).  The Vikings started out hot, and while Walla Walla (1-11, 0-4) had their bright spots throughout the contest, the shooting of PSU was too much for the Wolves to handle and they would go on to lose 59-118.

By the Numbers

  • The Wolves shot 41.5% from the field tonight, and 9-27 from the three-point line
  • Portland State shot 58.4% from the field and shot 21-39 from the three-point line
  • Zayne Browning lead the Wolves in scoring with 10 points on 4-6 from the field and 2-2 from the free-throw line
  • Ethan Osias and Isiah Taylor each had a pair of made three-point field goals on the night for Walla Walla
  • Bryce Canda lead Portland State in scoring with 19 points, on 7-8 shooting from the field.  He made 5 three-point field goals
  • Trent Torkelsen lead the Wolves with 6 assists
  • Cameron Fitzgerald and Austin Jennings played their first minutes of the season tonight
How it Happened

Calaen Robinson of Portland State hit the first basket of the game from deep, the first of 21 made threes for the Vikings.  Walla Walla's Alec Calloway hit the first basket for the Wolves, a three-point field goal off a quick reversal pass from Zayne Browning to put the score at 3-7.  From there, the hits just kept coming for the Wolves as Portland State was hot from deep all night.  The Vikings went on a 15-3 run over the next 4 minutes and opened up a sizeable lead on the Wolves.  Walla Walla refused to back down, they played fast and were willing to take shots quickly in an attempt to keep pace with the Vikings.  Unfortunately for Walla Walla they didn't have the same level of success shooting on the night. Portland State shot 55% from the three-point line in the first half, making 11 threes.  Walla Walla knew it was facing a difficult opponent tonight, a much bigger school at a higher level, and they responded well, playing hard all the way to the end of the game.  A drive by Zayne Browning would be the final basket of the night for the Wolves, as they went on to lose 59-119 to the Vikings.
