How it Happened

The score stayed tight between these two teams all afternoon, with 7 lead changes and 5 ties in the game.  The Wolves had it going inside and out, shooting 10 of 15 on three-pointers in the first half.  Ethan Oasis and Isaiah Taylor had it going on from deep, and Walla Walla had the lead often in the first half, but could never pull away.  Dylan Browning, Alex Calloway and Austin Jennings all made significant contributions in the paint both rebounding and scoring.  For the Raiders, they seemed to have an answer for every Wolves run and hit timely three-points on the way to a 46-46 score at the half.

In the second half, the raiders jumped out early and they spent the majority of the half with a slight edge over the Wolves.  Walla Walla was never more than 5 points away the first 19 minutes of the half but the Raiders did just enough to maintain the lead.  It was a team effort Southern Oregon, they had six players in double figures, but no player had over 15 points.   For the Wolves Alex Calloway, David Reischach and Jordan Underwood all made timely contributions on offense in the second to keep the Wolves in it, behind the Stead scoring of Dylan, Ethan, Isaiah and Zayne. The Wolves made a comeback with just over a minute to play and tied the score up at 81-81.  After two made free-throws by Southern Oregon, the Wolves had their chance to tie the game back up or take the lead.  Dillion Browning took a deep three that was just short.  Zayne crashed the glassed and pulled down a big offensive rebound, but the Wolves failed to score after a missed three-point attempt from Zayne.  From that point the Wolves had to foul and the Raiders were able to make their free-throws and the Raiders would go on to win 94 to 85.  While Walla Walla dropped both of their games this weekend, the played well and took two teams doing well in the Cascade Conference to the wire.  This should be a very encouraging thing for Wolves fans.
