Olympia, Wash. –The Wolves were in Olympia this afternoon to take The Evergreen State College (7-17, 4-14).  Coming off a fast-paced game last night, Walla Walla (3-23, 2-16) was not able to get the season sweep of the Geoducks, losing 96-69.

By the Numbers
  • Chad Torkelsen led the Wolves in scoring and rebounds with 20 points and 8 boards on the night.  The Wolves had four players finish with double figures in scoring
  • The Wolves shot 43% from the field tonight, compared to 52% for the Geoducks
  • Walla Walla had a tough time generating points in the paint tonight, finishing with only 18 total
  • Taylor Drey led the Geoducks in scoring with 25 points
How It Happened

Right from the tip, The Evergreen State College seemed to have energy on their side.  A three-pointer from Shaw Spencer gave the Geoducks an early 7-0 lead.  Ethan Osias broke the ice for the Wolves, hitting a jumper a little over a minute into the game and ending the Geoducks run.  Unfortunately, for Walla Walla the Geoducks did not let up, as they took a 5-point lead and built that up to a 14-point lead over the first eight minutes of the game.  Taylor Drey made a layup off an assist from Shawn Spencer to making it 22-8, which prompted a timeout from Walla Walla.  Chad Torkelsen hit a three-point field goal with 5:40 left to get the lead under 10 points, but Walla Walla was not able to sustain the momentum and Evergreen built the lead up to 20 points, taking a 54-34 lead into half time.  Walla Walla could not keep up with the Geoducks, who stop all attempts by the Wolves to crawl back into the game.  In the second half, Evergreen found their way to the line often, making 16-19 free throws in the half.  After being down as much as 29 points, the Wolves pushed to get back in the game with just under 10 minutes to play.  Alex Calloway hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to 17 points.  However, a mix of free throws, fast break layups and shooting from deep pushed the game out of reach.  The Wolves dropped today's game to Evergreen 96-69.
