Wolves Cannot Shutdown Beacons

College Place, Wash. – The Beacons grabbed the lead in the first few minutes of the game and the Wolves were not able to get within reach of Northwest for the remainder of the matchup.
 
Northwest jumped on the Wolves with a lead of 7-0 with eight minutes left in the first quarter. A three-pointer from Carolina Montes put Walla Walla on the board with just under eight minutes left, 7-3. With five minutes left, Montes had a layup and the Wolves were down 7-15. Kristen Parr had a three-pointer for the Beacons and Alyssa Blankenship followed with a jumper for the Wolves, but Northwest remained in control of the game 9-18. In the last minute of the quarter Hannah Eddens and Jenna Christenson had layups for Northwest, and Walla Walla was down 24-9. A three-pointer by Allison Parker with twenty seconds left took the Beacons into the second half up 27-11.
 
Walla Walla started the second quarter with a free-throw from Sarah Halversen making it a twenty nineteen-point lead for the Beacons, 34-15. The teams had a slow start with the first non-free-throw points occurring with five minutes left in the quarter, with consecutive three-pointers from Christenson. Blankenship had a layup with three minutes left in the half, and Walla Walla was down 42-20. A layup from Morgan McKinney took the Beacons into the second half up 49-22. Northwest was led in the first half by Christenson with six points and McKinney with four points.
 
Back to back layups from Niki Duncan and Kaylynn Bush put the Beacons ahead 53-22 with eight minutes left in the game. Duncan had a three-pointer with six minutes left, and Northwest continued to rise 58-22. The Wolves had eight free-throws in the third quarter, with eight of them from Halversen. With four minutes left in the quarter Blankenship had back to back jumpers for Walla Walla, 64-30 Beacons. In the last minute of the quarter Christenson had a three-pointer for Northwest, and Emily Downs followed with a jumper for the Wolves. After a three-pointer from Cassidy Galindo, the Beacons entered the fourth quarter ahead 70-34.
 
Within the first ten seconds of the fourth quarter Ariana Fuselier had a three-pointer for the Beacons. With just under nine minutes left in the game, the Wolves had back to back jumpers from Blankenship and Montes, 73-38. With four minutes left in the game a layup from Eddens put Northwest up by almost forty points, 79-41. Eddens had three layups in the last three minutes of the game, securing a win for Northwest of thirty-eight points, 83-45.
 
Northwest's leaders were Niki Duncan with 17 points and 4 rebounds, Hannah Eddens with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and Morgan McKinney with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Walla Walla's leaders were Alyssa Blankenship with 14 points and 7 rebounds, Carolina Montes with 10 points and 2 rebounds, and Sarah Halversen with 9 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Walla Walla competes against Northwest in their final game tomorrow at 7:30 pm.
