CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Walla Walla Women's Volleyball team earned the spotlight with two straight set upset victories over two teams who earned national recognition in the latest NAIA coaches poll. With that spotlight, the Wolves were named the Under Armour Team of the Week for Sept. 1-7, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.

Walla Walla started the weekend with a straight set win over (RV) Oregon Tech (25-10, 25-19, 29-27) and closed it out with a sweep of No. 19 Southern Oregon (25-13, 25-16, 25-22). The Wolves had never earned a victory against either school coming into the weekend, going a combined 0-40. The two wins improved the WWU record to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in CCC play.

"Receiving this honor is something we've only dreamed about," coach Kiana Krumm said. "The hard work, sweat and tears that my team put into last season and this season is finally paying off. I can feel our collective love for the game and support for one another on and off the court. As a coach, I couldn't be more proud."

The Wolves were led by Yaimaris Garcia on Friday as she filled up the stat sheet. Garcia led the team with 13 kills and eight aces and had 14 assists as well. Deshy Sandoval led the team with 23 assists and Vicky Giardina had 20 digs. The Wolves had an attack percentage of .278.

On Saturday, it was the captain Sahara Browning who took over on offense with 18 kills. Garcia had 26 assists, Paula Flores had 16 digs and Myckayla Shaver led the pack with four total blocks. WWU was stingy all night long and held the Raiders to just 17 kills and an attack percentage of .012.

Walla Walla had 95 kills and 88 assists over the weekend and now leads the entire NAIA in kills per set (15.41) and assists per set (14.71).

The weekly honor is the first Under Armour CCC Team of the Week honor in Walla Walla University history.
