CORVALLIS, Ore. — Sophomore
Jaylo Bello was named the Cascade Conference McDonald's Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week, presented by Urban Edge Network, it was announced on Monday.
Bello set a program record with eight 3-pointers against Northwest on Saturday and averaged 29.5 points per game over the weekend. The sophomore scored nearly half of the points put up by Walla Walla Women's Basketball over the two games played, including 65.4% of the points scored against Northwest. The 34 points scored on Saturday tied her own school record that she broke against Willamette in November.
"Jaylo was in rhythm all weekend," Walla Walla head coach
Makana Stone said. "34 points and setting a new school record of 8 threes in a single game speaks for itself, but her ability to score at all three levels, without losing her defensive integrity and facilitating the team's offense, is elite. Performances like this show just how high her ceiling really is."
The sophomore is averaging 18.0 points per game, second most in the CCC, and is third in the conference in 3-pointers made this season.
This is the first weekly honor for Bello and she is the fourth WWU Women's Basketball player to earn a weekly award from the Cascade Conference.
