The Walla Walla University women's basketball team played the second game of their weekend double-header against New Hope Christian College Sunday afternoon, losing 68-45.

New Hope was coming off a 10 point victory Saturday night, and the Wolves were unable to get the better of them on Sunday.

Both teams had difficulties getting anything going offensively early on, with New Hope shooting 33% from the field while the Wolves were only able to connect on 27% of first half shots.

WWU freshman Charity Underwood hit a bucket at the buzzer on a baseline inbounds play to send the Wolves into the half trailing by 13 points, 32-19.

Senior forward Lauren Pernu worked hard in the post to get Walla Walla on the board first in the second half, but it was several fast break baskets that helped New Hope push and extend their lead and finish with the win.

New Hope had seven players who recorded at least two offensive rebounds, collecting a total of 27 as a team. These second chance opportunities limited Walla Walla's chances of getting back into the game, and made it difficult to piece together any sort of a rally.

Michaela Garcia led the Wolves statistically, posting a double-double 14 points, and 10 rebounds. Lauren Pernu added nine points and a team high 14 rebounds. Junior wing Jackie Shankel looked to create some offense for her teammates, handing out five assists to go along with her five rebounds.

It was a tough season for the Wolves as they failed to record a win over the course of 23 games. That being said, the team worked hard, showing lots of resilience and refusing to quit when things got difficult. While losing is not easy, the Wolves handled all of their games with class and grace. It was not an uncommon sight to see players after a game with a smile on their face, knowing they had given it their best that night.

An offseason of hard work, and refining their skills awaits Wolves players as they will look to come back strong next year.
