Men's Basketball: (RV) Oregon Tech Nails Last-Second 3-Pointer to Stun Wolves

KiAndre Gaddy Grabs his 500th Career Rebound

COLLEGE PLACE, WASH. - Scotty Burge knocked down a 3-pointer in the last second for (RV) Oregon Tech, as the Owls overcame a 10-point deficit late in the second half to stun Walla Walla. Zayne Browning scored a season-high 29 points in the loss for the Wolves.

 GAME NOTES:

  • Walla Walla came out strong from the opening tip, as the combo of efficient offense and active defense helped the Wolves race out to a 25-9 lead midway through the first half and they continued their impressive first half, eventually taking a 39-24 lead after the opening half. The Wolves shot 60-percent and went 7-for-9 from beyond the arc while holding the Owls to 28-percent shooting to fuel the first-half lead.  
  • The Owls wasted no time, as a Harrison Steiger layup capped off a 10-0 run to begin the second half to cut the Wolves lead to single-digits.
  • The Wolves weathered the storm and answered with a run of their own, as a KiAndre Gaddy layup capped off a 17-5 run to push the Wolves lead back out to 15 with just under 12 minutes remaining.
  • From here the Owls chipped away, trailing by 10 after Zayne Browning hit a 3-pointer with just under four minutes remaining.
  • The Owls scored five quick points, but the Wolves answered as a Caleb Golden jumper under two minutes left extended the lead to 75-69 before the Owls reeled off six of the next seven points, tying up the score at 76-76 after an Erik Fraser triple with 35 seconds remaining, setting up the Wolves with an opportunity to break the tie.
  • Coming out of the timeout the Wolves found Gaddy on the right wing, as successfully drive down the lane to convert a layup with 16 seconds left to give the Wolves a 78-76 lead before the Owls advanced the ball up the court and took their final timeout.
  •  Coming out the timeout Owls guard Keegan Shivers inbound the ball on the right sideline to Scotty Burge who dropped the ball right back to Shivers, who then found Burge wide open in the right corner as two Wolves defenders chased Shivers to the top of the three-point line for the game-winning 3-pointer.
  • The Wolves had .7 seconds left, but were unable to get a shot off, giving the Owls the victory.  

PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Kellen Gerig led four Owls in double-figures with 17 points.
  • Zayne Browning scored 18 of his season-high 29 points in the first-half before fouling out three minutes left in the second half. KiAndre Gaddy secured another double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Gaddy tied his career-high again in blocks, swatting five, while also securing his 500th career rebound.
