ASHLAND, Ore. — The Walla Walla Women's Basketball team competed with one of the best teams in the NAIA, but lost to No. 4 Southern Oregon 87-44 on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion in a Cascade Conference game.
Freshman
Jaylo Bello led the Wolves with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting with three 3-pointers.
Natalee Trevino added two 3s and finished with nine points.
The loss dropped the Walla Walla record to 4-14 overall and 1-11 in CCC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Chariah Daniels did not waste time getting the Wolves on the board. The senior scored inside to give the visiting team an early lead. Southern Oregon answered on the following possession, but Trevino hit one of two free throws to give Walla Walla a 3-2 advantage. The Raiders showed why they are one of the best teams in the country with a 12-0 where they held WWU scoreless for over six minutes.
The Wolves did not fold and worked the ball inside.
Jordan Green-Wallace made a layup to end the run. Bello stole the ball and made a nice spin move to make it a 4-0 run. Trevino converted inside and Green-Wallace hit a free throw, but SOU led 22-10 after the first quarter.
Just like the first quarter, Walla Walla got on the board first in the second.
Mireyah Lopez made the only successful 3-point attempt in the first half for the Wolves on the opening possession. Southern Oregon pushed its lead to 21 with a 12-0 run. Green-Wallace converted on a jump shot to end the run, but it was the last points scored by WWU in the half.
Bello started the second half with a 3-pointer. The Raiders scored the next four points before the Wolves went on a run.
Sidney Folkenberg hit a free throw, Bello made another 3 and Lopez scored inside. Trevino got hot from outside with consecutive 3-pointers and Bello added a 3 of her own. The Wolves cut the lead to 20, but SOU scored the final 12 points of the quarter. Southern Oregon led 65-33.
In the fourth quarter it was Bello with a layup followed by a layup by
Allison Haslam. Haslam hit from beyond the arc later in the quarter to cut the lead to 28. The Raiders went on a 9-0 run before Green-Wallace and Bello were both able to score inside to conclude the scoring for Walla Walla.

The Wolves will start the second half of the CCC schedule with two games as the home team, but not at Windemuth Court. Walla Walla will host Northwest University at noon on Friday, Jan. 24 at Whitman College and then the Wolves will face Evergreen State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Walla Walla Community College.
